Garden Party 2019
Guests began arriving in the late afternoon of Sunday, June 23, at the colorful and luxuriant gardens of hosts Lois and Roger Sutherland with the sun shining gloriously. The setting around the shimmering swimming pool lured everyone into relaxed conversation while beverages flowed and plates of appetizers disappeared. Comments were heard about how everyone appreciated the blue skies and soft breeze. Pat Kelly played the keyboard to create a perfect background of music for the day.
Bravo caterers served a light supper of chopped salad, chicken, salmon and roasted mixed vegetables as the evening progressed. With everyone getting seated at the umbrella tables or on the porch, the skies turned and Dayton’s fickle weather shooed everyone under cover as the raindrops hurtled down. The brief shower didn’t dampen the spirits of the guests who carried on the camaraderie inside and nibbled at the delicious tiramisu.
Thanks go out to Chair Hyacinth Paul and her team for orchestrating such a wonderful Opera Guild tradition.
Garden Party 2018
Welcome by Karen Henderson and Sue Falter
Tim and Barbara Haller invited Opera Guild members and friends to their palatial wooded home for a magical afternoon of music, delicious food and lively company! It was the annual Garden Party on Sunday, June 24. The intensity of the summer sun was just beginning to ease as guests rode the black stretch limo into Gander Run. Several hardier souls chose the tranquil walk up the shady driveway. After passing the soothing sounds from the front fountain, guests were greeted by Karen Henderson and Sue Falter. Photo opportunities presented themselves everywhere. A favorite was with Spirit, a Morgan horse, and his trainer.

Harpist Bobbie Strobhar played lovely selections while guests filled (and refilled) their plates with a range of tempting delicacies created by caterer Michaels. The array of choices included everything from exotic cheeses, crisp veggies, chicken croissant sandwiches to spicy meatballs. Lemon bars and chunky brownies tempted everyone to save a little room for a sweet finish. Guests could take the food and beverages back to the pool area to hear the more lively Shawn Stanley trio, sit on the shady porch or retreat into the gazebo.
Mike and Cecilia Brendel
Guild President Nancy Farkas thanked everyone for coming and especially our host and hostess. She presented Tim and Barbara with a gift in appreciation of their hospitality. Special thanks to Amy Lombardo and her committee for their hard work to plan such a grand day in the garden.

Garden Party 2017
The Guild held its 25th annual Garden Party on Sunday, June 25, from 5-8 p.m at the home of Drs. Hyacinth Paul and Malay Dey, located at 10819 Mariam Lane, Dayton. The annual Garden Party is always a favorite.
The weather could not have been more perfect–sunny skies and comfortable temperatures. Everyone gathered around the azure pool to mix and mingle. Many wandered the extensive gardens filled with colorful blossoms, shady trees, water features, arched gateways and massive stone outcroppings. It was a relaxed and beautiful setting. A light dinner buffet was served with spicy meatballs, croissant sandwiches, a variety of cheeses, ramaki and other delights. Topping everything off was a selection of luscious sweets.
A. J. Brown & Sons Nursery of Phillipsburg donated a knockout rose bush and the fern leaf buck thorn tree as door prizes. What a wonderful way to kick summer into high gear!

Annual Garden Party 2016
Just under a hundred Guild members and their friends gathered for the annual Garden Party on Sunday, June 26, from 4-7 p.m. at the gracious home of Lois and Roger Sutherland.
This is always one of the highlights of the summer for attendees. A light dinner buffet was served around the pool with the upbeat sounds of a steel drum drifting in the air.
Chair Kathy Brown and her committee of Helen Miller and Carolyn Szoke did a wonderful job in making the event inviting and fun. Kathy presented the Guild’s BRAVO! Award to Jane Reynolds for her sustained and extensive service to the Guild over a long period of time. Congratulations Jane!
