Amea Bretz and Gary Mitchner


Gary Mitchner has chosen his granddaughter Amea Bretz as his Perfect Pair partner.

Gary started work at Sinclair Community College in 1972 after teaching one year at Oakwood High School.  Mitchner became chair of the English Department and retired as a Professor Emeritus in English in  2006.  Since his retirement he has been active in the arts community, traveled extensively and writes a weekly column, “’Round Town,” for The Oakwood Register. He is the new Managing Vice President Marketing and Communications for the Opera Guild of Dayton. He has been active for many years with Friendship Force and is a reader for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. He is past poet laureate for SCC and currently poet laureate for the University of Dayton’s Osher Life Long Learning Institute (UDOLLI). Despite these and many other local activities, Gary finds the time to travel extensively

Amea Bretz is a junior at Oakwood High School and is currently a dancer with the Miami Valley Dance Company. She has danced with the Mercyhurst University Dance Department and Grand Rapids Ballet. In her free time she volunteers at Miami Valley Hospital and babysits around Oakwood.
